Why a link beats a copy-paste
Every tailoring tool needs the job description. Most make you find it, select it, copy it, and paste it, and that is exactly where the process quietly breaks. People paste half the posting, miss the requirements section that was behind a *show more* toggle, or lose the responsibilities list entirely because it sat in a separate accordion.

How job-link parsing actually works

The posting is fetched and reduced to text
The page is retrieved and stripped down to the actual job content: navigation, cookie banners, related-jobs rails, and footer boilerplate are discarded so they do not pollute the keyword extraction.
Structure is pulled out of the prose
The role title, employer, seniority, responsibilities, must-have requirements, nice-to-haves, and named tools are separated out. A requirement repeated across the summary, the responsibilities, and the requirements list is weighted far more heavily than one mentioned once.
Your CV is matched against those requirements

Tailoring a resume from a LinkedIn job link
LinkedIn is where most people find the role and it is also where most copy-paste attempts go wrong: the description is collapsed behind a *see more* control, and the skills-match panel sits in a different part of the page entirely. Tailoring a resume from an Indeed or Glassdoor listing
Indeed and Glassdoor postings are usually more structured than LinkedIn's, with a clean requirements block and a responsibilities list, which makes the extracted requirement weighting more reliable. The same rule applies: paste the URL for the individual posting, not a search result page.
Aggregators sometimes host a truncated version of a description that lives in full on the employer's own careers site. Where both exist, the employer's page is the better link, because it is the version the hiring team actually wrote.
Company careers pages and everything else
Most company careers pages read fine, including the common applicant-tracking-system-hosted ones. Where a link cannot be retrieved (a login wall, an aggressive bot check, or a description that only renders after an interaction), paste the job description text directly instead. Every step after the fetch is identical.
What tailoring cannot fix
Being straight about this is more useful than a feature list.
- A genuine experience gap. If a role needs five years of something you have never done, no rewrite closes that, and the interview would find it anyway.
