Resume keywords for sales managers

The terms sales leadership postings repeat, grouped by where they belong on the page. In sales the numbers are the argument. A manager CV without a quota and an attainment figure reads as a CV hiding one.

What sales managers postings actually ask for

Sales manager adverts are built around a small set of numbers and the systems that track them. Quota attainment, pipeline management and forecasting appear in most of them, next to a CRM named as a product: Salesforce or HubSpot. The second half of the advert is leadership: coaching, hiring, territory planning, a qualification method like MEDDIC. A CV that says 'grew revenue and led a team' matches almost none of that, even when the person has done all of it.

The keywords, grouped

Grouped by the job each one does, because where a term belongs on the page matters as much as whether it is there at all.

GroupTerms a posting usesWhy this group matters
Numbers and targetsquota attainment, revenue growth, annual quota, average deal size, win rate, sales cycle, pipeline coverage, net new revenue, expansion revenue, retention, forecast accuracyThe group a hiring manager reads first. Each term needs a figure next to it, and the quota needs the attainment beside it.
Sales process and methodpipeline management, sales forecasting, territory planning, account planning, MEDDIC, MEDDPICC, Challenger Sale, solution selling, consultative selling, deal reviews, enterprise sales, negotiationName the methodology you actually ran. Postings search for MEDDIC or Challenger as literal strings.
Leadershipteam leadership, sales coaching, performance management, hiring and onboarding, quota setting, ramp time, compensation planning, cross-functional, quarterly business reviews (QBRs)Where a manager separates from a top rep. Every one of these belongs in a bullet with a team outcome.
SystemsSalesforce, HubSpot, Gong, Outreach, Salesloft, LinkedIn Sales Navigator, Clari, ExcelThe CRM is often named in the advert, and a team on Salesforce will search for Salesforce. List the tools you ran reviews and forecasts in.

Where each group belongs on the page

1

Summary: quota, attainment and team size

The first two lines should give the team you lead, the quota you carry and the attainment you hit. 112% of a 6.4M team quota says more than any adjective.

2

Skills block: CRM and methodology

Salesforce or HubSpot by name, then the qualification method, then the tools your team uses. This block is searched before it is read.

3

Bullets: team results, not your own deals

At manager level the reader wants to know what happened to the team. How many reps hit target, how ramp time changed, how the forecast held.

4

Bullets: the market you sold into

Segment, region and deal size. SMB and enterprise are different jobs, and the reader needs to know which one you ran.

A keyword only counts inside evidence

Both columns below contain the keyword. Only one of them survives a hiring manager reading it, which is the whole reason a keyword list is not a strategy on its own.

quota attainment

The first states a duty. The second gives the target, the result and the team behind it.

Before

Managed a sales team and consistently exceeded targets.

After

Lead 8 account executives against a 6.4M annual quota, closing 2025 at 112% with 6 of 8 reps individually above target.

sales coaching

Coaching only counts when a named rep or metric moved.

Before

Coached team members to improve their performance.

After

Introduced weekly deal reviews and a MEDDIC qualification standard, taking 3 underperforming reps above quota within two quarters.

How these terms appear in a real posting

Where these CVs lose points

  • Attainment without the quota. 112% of what? A percentage with no base reads as a number chosen to flatter.
  • Your own deals at manager level. A reader hiring a manager wants the team result. Keep one line on your personal closing if it matters.
  • No segment or deal size. Without them a reader cannot tell a transactional desk from an enterprise team.
  • The CRM left out. Salesforce and HubSpot are among the most searched terms in sales postings.
  • Adjectives instead of figures. 'Results driven' and 'high performing' take up space that a number would fill better.

Check your CV against the posting in front of you

This page lists what sales managers postings tend to ask for. The advert you are answering today weights them differently, and that is the list that decides your application. Paste both into the checker at the top of this page to see which of its terms your CV never mentions, or read the worked Sales Manager CV example to see the terms sitting inside real bullets.

Sales Manager resume keywords: FAQ

What numbers should a sales manager resume include?

Quota and attainment together, team size, average deal size, and at least one team outcome such as reps above target or ramp time. Those four let a reader place you in seconds.

Should I name my sales methodology?

Yes, if you actually ran it. MEDDIC, MEDDPICC, Challenger and solution selling are searched as literal strings. Put the name in a bullet that shows what changed when the team adopted it.

What if I missed quota one year?

Give your strongest honest period and explain context where it helps, such as a territory change or a new product. Leaving every number off draws more suspicion than one weaker year.

Do I list Salesforce if everyone uses it?

Yes. It is often a stated requirement and it is searched literally. Add what you did in it, such as building the forecast or the deal review dashboard, so it reads as ownership rather than access.

Can I just copy these keywords onto my resume?

No, and a CV built that way falls apart in the first interview. Use the list as a checklist against work you have actually done. A term you cannot evidence in a bullet is a term that moves your rejection from the screen to the phone call, which is worse for you, not better.

How many keywords should a resume have?

There is no target number, and any tool that gives you one is guessing. What matters is coverage of the specific posting in front of you: the terms it repeats should be findable on your CV, in your own evidence. Twelve well placed terms beat forty in a list.
